Sammy and Rosie are an unconventional middle-class London married couple. They live in the midst of inner-city chaos, surround themselves with intellectual street people, and sleep with everybody - except each other! Things become interesting when Sammy's father, Rafi, who is a former Indian government minister, comes to London for a visit. Sammy, Rosie, and Rafi try to find meaning through their lives and loves.

What critics compared Sammy and Rosie Get Laid to
The film was actually made in 2005 and perhaps the distributors could have urged Anderson to splice some non-American material into this, some reference to Kenneth Tynan, say, or Hanif Kureishi talking about the original title for Sammy and Rosie Get Laid – The Fuck – to give this broader appeal.
This time around, Chereau is not pulling from French history but two stories: "Intimacy" and "Night Light" by Hanif Kureishi, the gifted writer of "My Beautiful Laundrette," "Sammy and Rosie Get Laid" and "My Son the Fanatic."
Based on stories by Hanif Kureishi ("My Beautiful Laundrette," "Sammy and Rosie Get Laid") and directed by Frenchman Patrice Ch�reau ("Queen Margot"; this is his first English-language film), "Intimacy" is an earnest but ultimately pretentious production.
B-sides, these kinds of working class love/hate stories, were Frears' domain once upon a time, as his Sammy and Rosie Get Laid and Prick Up Your Ears demonstrate.
