The highest wattage comes from Florence Pugh, the up-and-coming British actress best known for the TV mini-series The Little Drummer Girl and the 2019 theatrical release Fighting with My Family.
Yet both films share a love of odd ceremonies that get progressively more inappropriate as the story moves forward, the cumulative impact of a tension that builds almost imperceptibly until it’s taken over your body, and a soul-scorching lead performance (by Florence Pugh, most recently from Fighting With My Family, as well as Lady Macbeth and The Little Drummer Girl AMC series) that is both one of the best you’ll see this year and the reason for most of the bad that happens in the film.
Florence Pugh continues her strong recent run of roles in projects as different the John le Carre TV adaptation The Little Drummer Girl, the WWE biopic Fighting With My Family, and the Netflix medieval adventure The Outlaw King.
Out of a terrific ensemble cast, Pugh (Midsommar, TV’s The Little Drummer Girl) emerges as the star.
Thoroughly deserving her time in the MCU spotlight after 11 years and eight prior big-screen appearances, a flame-haired Johansson relishes the long-awaited chance to give Natasha more depth than she's ever been afforded — and, in a generous performance, she also sparks with and bounces off of the always-impressive Pugh, who just keeps going from strength to strength (see also: Lady Macbeth, The Little Drummer Girl, Fighting with My Family and Midsommar).
