Educating Rita (1983)

Rita, a witty 26-year-old hairdresser, wants to 'discover' herself, so she joins the Open University where she meets the disillusioned professor of literature, Dr. Frank Bryant. His marriage has failed, his new girlfriend is having an affair with his best friend and he can't get through the day without downing a bottle or two of whisky. What Frank needs is a challenge... and along comes Rita.

The script is out of balance, wandering off into “Educating Rita” territory as Lou is exposed to things only the truly rich (and class conscious) typically experience.
Enter Lou as Will’s latest caregiver, and here come the plot references to “My Fair Lady,” “Educating Rita,” “The Bucket List,” “Pretty Woman” (Lou even wears a red dress to a musical performance, ala Julia Roberts) and even “Dying Young” (in which Ms. Roberts played a caregiver to a wealthy patient played by Campbell Scott).
Cue her best pals and backup singers rambunctious Rosie (Educating Rita's Julie Walters, showing a real talent for physical comedy) and thrice-married tigress Tanya (Christine Baranski of TV's Cybill) who have come to the island for some pre-wedding partying.
