At an exclusive country club, an ambitious young caddy, Danny Noonan, eagerly pursues a caddy scholarship in hopes of attending college and, in turn, avoiding a job at the lumber yard. In order to succeed, he must first win the favour of the elitist Judge Smails, and then the caddy golf tournament which Smails sponsors.

What critics compared Caddyshack to
It's no "Caddyshack," but "Happy Gilmore" is still a great golf comedy.
When it comes to golf comedies (not a very popular genre, apparently), the film residing at the dubious pinnacle is Rodney Dangerfield's Caddyshack.
Before that, he popped up in potent bit parts in "Caddyshack" (1980), "Tootsie" (1982), and "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986), and laid it all on the line for his own pet project, "The Razor's Edge" (1984), which was unsuccessful, but interesting.
If you saw David Wain’s modest, yet enjoyable Netflix biopic of National Lampoon co-creator Doug Kenney, A Futile and Stupid Gesture, you’ve probably spent at least a few minutes reevaluating your opinion of Kenney’s final cinematic output, the 1980 film Caddyshack.

The tagline for the wacky, weed-filled, sexy, cheerfully offensive comedy “Caddyshack” in 1980 was: “The Snobs Against the Slobs.”
And rounding out the rookery of wayward souls are Dakota Johnson and Cailee Spaeny as sisters on the lam from a charismatic hippie cult leader, played by Chris Hemsworth, whose hand-me-down Charles Manson rhetoric is delivered in a dopey cadence channelling Caddyshack-vintage Bill Murray.
Ramis, who has Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day and Caddyshack in his "win" column, co-wrote the screenplay with Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg of TV's The Office.

“Richie told me to come tell him when it stops raining. So I got that going for me, which is nice.” The latter part of that comment is a famous quote from Caddyshack, spoken by Murray’s groundskeeper, Carl: “It’s in the hole!” Spackler.
