What critics compared I Live in Fear to
While American audiences (and I was part of them way back then) were strictly interested in the monster destroying Tokyo scenes, the film had much more in common with Akira Kurosawa’s “I Live in Fear” that came out a year later.
Economic disparity may be the greatest subject of the twenty-first century for intimate horror, and Watch a lot of Kurosawa you haven’t seen lately, especially “High & Low,” “Dodes’ka-den,” “I Live In Fear,” “The Lower Depths” and “The Bad Sleep Well.”
