The Strange Ones (1950)

Elisabeth and her brother Paul live isolated from much of the world after Paul is injured in a snowball fight. As a coping mechanism, the two conjure up a hermetic dream of their own making. Their relationship, however, isn't exactly wholesome. Jealousy and a malevolent undercurrent intrude on their fantasy when Elisabeth invites the strange Agathe to stay with them -- and Paul is immediately attracted to her.

What critics compared The Strange Ones to
The Dreamers is based on Gilbert Adairâs novel of the same name, which was based on Melvilleâs Fifties film Les Enfants Terribles (which was itself based on the novel by Jean Cocteau).
The Holy Innocents was inspired by Jean Cocteau's Les enfants terribles and is interesting mainly for the wit and invention of the prose -- even the incest has a highly literary pedigree.
In his role as his sister's guardian angel (à la Wings of Desire and Les Enfants Terribles), Oscar revisits scenes from their childhood — it's complicated and troubled — as well as from her stressful adult life.
