The Music Box (1932)

The Laurel & Hardy Moving Co. have a challenging job on their hands (and backs): hauling a player piano up a monumental flight of stairs to Prof. von Schwarzenhoffen's house. Their task is complicated by a sassy nursemaid and, unbeknownst to them, the impatient Prof. von Schwarzenhoffen himself. But the biggest problem is the force of gravity, which repeatedly pulls the piano back down to the bottom of the stairs.

What critics compared The Music Box to
Not only are there affectionate tributes and homages to cinema, with references to Buster Keaton (an ongoing in-joke between films), Walter Hill’s The Warriors , Laurel and Hardy’s The Music Box , Mission Impossible and many more, but it traverses between genres.
Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who did "Jagged Edge" and "The Music Box," resorts to his tired old elements, including illicit love on both sides of the law and a murder weapon that ends up being the macabre punchline.
