So these two dudes toke their way through freshman year, pulling "Animal House" pranks on the snooty Oreo dean (Obba Babatunde), copping booty from frat boys' babes and sorority virgins in argyle sweaters, and getting hookers for their geek dorm-mates, the Chinese wannabe gansta ("You East Coast, I Far East Coast!") and the pathetic whitebread frat pledge.
It's one of hundreds of Animal House stepchildren, with a cameo from the Bachelor Party donkey but no fugitive appearances, sadly, from our much missed ODB.
She lives with her single father Mark (played with aging, Gen-X charm by Kicking & Screaming ’s Josh Hamilton) and has zero friends, winning a superlative award for “Most Quiet.”
Yet while Baumbach’s oeuvre (from “Kicking & Screaming” to “The Meyerowitz Stories”) typically focuses on rich neurotic Jewish men in Manhattan with festering father issues, “Lady Bird” follows the misadventures of a restless working class Catholic girl stuck in Sacramento in a state of constant warfare with a mother by turns big-hearted and downright scary.
