Plot
The idea in a nutshell is a cross between Joseph McGrath's The Magic Christian (1969) and Allen Funt's Candid Camera TV series.
If Terry Southern’s novel “The Magic Christian” were produced by the folks at the Welcome Wagon, the result might be something like “Amélie.”
Huge and featuring an enormous cast of all-stars, Casino Royale has intermittent laughs amid crazy set-pieces and a great Burt Bacharach score, to boot.
Although it was no Cleopatra, Casino Royale cost a considerable sum of money to produce in 1966, its final cost ballooning to twice its original budget due to delays, egos, and freewheeling expenditures.
