A 35-year-old pushover still living at home and struggling to advance in his career as a toy designer, he initially feels like an attempt to recapture the cheeky relatability of Simon Pegg’s “Shaun of the Dead” everyman.
Perhaps not as adept or subtle as “Shaun of the Dead” or “Hot Fuzz,” it is, nevertheless a worthy addition to the horror/humor genre.
A brilliantly British bastardisation of Fatal Attraction by way of Small Soldiers, Benny Loves You can’t resist being childish in and of itself, referencing Hollywood classics and slasher favourites in abundance, without ever losing its own affable identity.

Most of the mayhem takes place in Jack’s isolated cottage, and the small location provides a great backdrop for big action (think: Home Alone meets Evil Dead 2 ).
When a Final Destination-esque calamity kills his parents as they are setting up his birthday party, Jack falls into a deep depression, which leads to the near repossession of the family home.
Christopher Landon and McG have been successful with Freaky and The Babysitter: Killer Queen , respectively, but for those sweet spots, there are many (subjective) sour notes.
From Puppet Master films to Child’s Play remakes, stories about playthings-gone-bad are an imaginative way to showcase practical effects and entertain on a budget, but the wrong choices can end up creating The Happytime Murders.
