Themes
If anything, Rebels of the Neon God owes itself more to American film noir (with nods to Oshima's Cruel Story of Youth and Chabrol's This Man Must Die).
Strongly influenced by Les Biches (1968), it’s as potentially as tragic as The Killing of Sister George (1968) and The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant (1972).
Never clunky but ultimately designed to be a crowd pleaser, there are shades of Claude Chabrol’s La Ceremonie (1995), a famed adaptation of Ruth Rendell’s A Judgment in Stone , also a parable from the perspective of the demeaned help of a wealthy family’s chilly home.
Through that portal, known to humanity as “The Breach,” came Kaiju, giant monsters that look like evil cousins to Godzilla and the denizens of Jurassic Park.

Themes
Although Sacred Deer shares some DNA with the Pinteresque invasion flicks of New French Extremism, notably Sitcom and La Ceremonie, most of its weaselly charms are derived from its perverse adherence to the rules set by its Hollywood antecedents.
