What critics say influenced Last Looks
The film attempts to be quirky and funny while offering its audience something intriguing and entertaining; something along the lines of Rian Johnson’s Brick , Shane Black’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang , or David Robert Mitchell’s Under the Silver Lake .
Some of these eccentricities disappear once his former flame Lorena (Moreno Baccarin, basically only here to push the plot into motion) pulls Waldo back to Los Angeles to investigate a crime scene, but the character is distinct enough to make one wish Rian Johnson teams him up with Daniel Craig for a future Knives Out sequel.
