What critics compared The Prodigy to
If you can think of it, The Prodigy apes it: The Omen , Exorcist III , The Good Son , Orphan , and even touches of Child’s Play are all on display here but without the knowingness to come alive.
This lends itself to some morbid humor along the same lines as Orphan, Jaume Collet-Serra’s utterly bonkers flick about a murderous orphan.
Scott, who most fans will remember as the adorable Georgie from IT (2017), is really damn good in The Prodigy , too, and walks that fine line of a kid you care about and a kid you wouldn’t want to be left alone with rather well.
While most of the cast is above-board as actors, Jackson Robert Scott — whom audiences already met as Georgie in the 2017 reboot of Stephen King’s It — stands out, especially with some of the adult-themed dialogue given to him.
Nicholas McCarthy's The Prodigy offers a more upscale package: a familiar face from TV (Taylor Schilling from Orange Is the New Black ), a scary kid (Jackson Robert Scott, who played the ill-fated Georgie in 2017's It ) and a familiar premise – could an innocent child be possessed by a serial killer?
Between his scenes in 2017’s It and one very distressing dialogue scene here, that kid will probably be in therapy for the rest of his life.
