Visuals
On Raimi, rather than any one film
…few can do visual gags quite like Sam Raimi…
We’ve always loved director Sam Raimi’s go-for-broke brio…
While Raimi is famous for his splatstick…
…honors the Raimi Cam…
Since Raimi passed the Kandarian baton…
…many of the choices made in Vaniček’s and co-writer Florent Bernard's script wind up overcomplicating the simple ideas that made Raimi's original The Evil Dead so successful.
Sometimes it works, like “The Evil Dead” in 1981 or 2013’s “Evil Dead,”…
Since its inception in 1981, the Evil Dead franchise has never been one to shy away from gore.
Sam Raimi’s horror series, originating in 1981 with The Evil Dead…
…the first two (The 1981 “The Evil Dead” and the 1987 “Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn,” both directed by Raimi)…
Starting with its inception in 1981, the Evil Dead film series has maintained a distinct identity all its own.
Evil Dead 2 eschewed the original’s intensity with its more mischievous pitch and redefined horror-comedies forever in 1987…
…especially when compared to franchise entries like “Evil Dead II” and “Army of Darkness.”
…following The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II (1987), Army Of Darkness (1992)…
…its two follow-ups, Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992)…
De aquella cabaña en el bosque nació un universo que se expandió con Evil Dead II (1987) —una relectura casi paródica de sí misma…
…such ghoulish excesses are either deployed for splatstick laughs (Evil Dead II, Army Of Darkness)…
Fede Álvarez favored sustained brutality in his “Evil Dead” reboot…
In terms of sheer brutality, Evil Dead Burn is most comparable to Fede Álvarez's 2013 remake.
Vaniček tries a little too hard to recapture iconic franchise moments, like a glorious scene of bloodshed from Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead that you’ll certainly recognize.
It may not fundamentally redefine Evil Dead, but it absolutely earns its place alongside its blood-soaked predecessors.
Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead reboot – the movie Burn most closely aligns with tonally…
Sometimes it works, like “The Evil Dead” in 1981 or 2013’s “Evil Dead,”…
…if you were astounded by movies like “Inside (2007)” or “Martyrs (2008)” or other titles in the new French Extremity wave of the aughts…
…this entry is very inspired by the New French Extremity (think Martyrs, Haute Tension, Baise-moi, or, perhaps most fittingly, Inside)…
…que en los 2000 dio títulos tan perturbadores como Alta tensión, Frontière(s), Martyrs o A l’intérieur…
The previous entry in the series, Evil Dead Rise, is a great movie because it gives audiences gasp-inducing kills while also keeping the zany, impishness of the Raimi-directed movies of the 80s.
While Evil Dead Rise cleverly transplanted the Deadites into a high-rise apartment building…
Picking up mere days after the events of 2023's Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Burn focuses on a grieving family on the day of their eldest son's wake.
I found it much funnier than the last installment (“Evil Dead Rise”)…
…in anticipation of 2023’s Evil Dead Rise…
…the lakeside Deadite that bookended Evil Dead Rise causes his death…

It’s like watching those elevator doors from The Shining.

It is like playing the horror version of “Clue.”
