Nick is excited to discover he's won a dinner date with his favorite actress, Jill Goddard. But when Jill refuses to honor the contest, he receives an offer he can't refuse: the ability to view Jill secretly via computer. Nick begins watching the unknowing star on her webcam, not realizing that this decision will put himself and Jill at risk as they enter a terrifying world of cat-and-mouse.

What critics compared Open Windows to
There have already been a few others: the rightly little-seen 2014 thriller Open Windows did something similar; and there was the appalling Unfriended sequel, Dark Web, just earlier this summer.
Other computer thrillers have hit theaters before Searching (2014‘s Open Windows, 2014’s Unfriended and the 2018 sequel Unfriended: Dark Web), but it’s safe to say that this film is much more inventive and strikes some important and sympathetic themes.

While Italian gore-meister Nacho Vigalondo technically got there first the same year with the Elijah Wood–starring Open Windows, the creative team behind Unfriended perfected the style on the first try.
While the concept of unfolding the story primarily over a computer screen is less innovative in the wake of the opening act of 2010's " Catfish ," as well as 2014's " Open Windows ," 2015's " Unfriended ," and 2018's " Unfriended: Dark Web ," writer-director Chaganty and co-writer Sev Ohanian use it in a natural, dramatically sound way.
Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo, who made the amazing Timecrimes (2007), attempts to create something equally amazing here.
Yet, as many critics have already complained, in contrast to Vigalondo’s Timecrimes (2007) and Extraterrestre (2011), the constraints of the initial concept of Open Windows have failed to produce a masterpiece.
Eventually others would pick up this technologically driven subspecies of ‘found footage’, leading to films like Zachary Donohue’s The Den (aka Hacked, 2013), Nacho Vigalondo’s Open Windows (2014), Leo Gabriadze’s Unfriended (2014), Branden Kramer’s Ratter (2015), Aneesh Chaganty’s Searching (2018), Timur Bekmambetov’s Profile (2018) and Stephen Susco’s Unfriended: Dark Web (2018).
Mientras Searching (2018) es un thriller encantador muy bien llevado por John Cho y con la extraña magia de Timur Bergmambetov en la producción, Open Window (2014) de Vigalondo fue una completa decepción en la gran carrera del gran director español.
