Like her previous movies—River of Grass, Meek’s Cutoff , Wendy and Lucy , and Night Moves —the new one uses a slow pace to conjure a contemplative, moody atmosphere.
As is generally the case—2013’s Night Moves being the obvious exception—Reichardt eschews high drama or overt politics in favour of quietude, elegant gestures and telltale exchanges between people in tenuous relationships that allude to politics.
