What critics compared Winter's Tale to
"Winter's Tale" is a handsome production, shot by Caleb Deschanel (2012's " Jack Reacher ") with frosty beatification, but the film is also a bit of a disaster.
It is hard to say whether the target audience will derive as much pleasure from this film as they normally do exemplars of the genre; this is a special case because the three-hander script, credited to Brian Duffield, Akiva Goldsman (Winter’s Tale) and Mark Bomback (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), is only very loosely inspired by Veronica Roth’s novel.
He and his screenwriters?Brian Duffield, Akiva Goldsman (2014's " Winter's Tale ") and Mark Bomback (2014's " Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ")?have an accomplished, gradually expanding cast at their disposal and, while some are used more fully than others, they without fail bring color and dignity to the picture's somewhat familiar trappings.
Among his glittering credits are Batman & Robin , The Da Vinci Code , Angels & Demons , and last year's much-despised Winter's Tale (which he also directed).
In that respect, it's like 2014's unfairly lambasted Winter's Tale, a similarly magical fairy tale that too often pressed its luck.
Romance and aging have been intertwined in movies such as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "Winter's Tale," not to mention TV's 'The Twilight Zone."
That explanation is vastly more fascinating and entertaining than the film built around it, but I can’t say that Life Itself ever bored me with Fogelman’s particular brand of emotional insanity, and at least it’s better than comparable misfires like Collateral Beauty or Winter’s Tale .
