“Sound of Falling” is exactly what Robert Zemeckis’ “Here” (2024) was trying to be. In both films, the camera is the eye, as we are the invisible visitors/observers watching different generations of people inhabiting a single space over periods of time.
The way the film remains anchored to the same house through the decades calls to mind Robert Zemeckis’ Here…
…it’s reminiscent of the marketing for films like Big Fish, Forrest Gump, and Here…
But to many Flanagan’s film, like Robert Zemeckis’ recent “Here,” will come off as a carefully crafted but inertly earnest exercise in pseudo-profundity.
After last week’s housebound Tom Hanks effort Here, we now have a similar-themed exploration from Steven Soderbergh.
Like Robert Zemeckis’s Here, Steven Soderbergh’s Presence takes place entirely in a single house, with discussions around the purchase of the building part of the story in both cases.
