Loosely based on the life and early career of the ski jumper and Olympic novelty act Eddie Edwards, this is a ruthlessly efficient sports movie from the former Times scribe Sean Macaulay (credited as the co-writer with Simon Kelton), the producer Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) and the director Dexter Fletcher (Wild Bill).
How much of what the film depicts is true is widely open for debate, but a cursory search suggests director Dexter Fletcher (“Wild Bill”) and writers Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton did a lot of fudging on everything from where and how Eddie trained to who coached him.
Through Wild Bill and Sunshine On Leith , Fletcher has shown himself a director who likes to hope for a happy ending, whatever gloom might block it from view, which makes him the ideal match for this material.
