Brooks is the mind behind such emotionally trenchant movies as Terms of Endearment, Broadcast News and As Good As It Gets, not to mention TV landmarks like Taxi and The Simpsons.
Lisa is the sort of feisty, with-it, type-A female Brooks has loved since "Broadcast News," only here she's stricken with an inertia that's never really explained (witness the strange cameo for Tony Shalhoub as her would-be analyst).
But the writer/director’s efforts are usually good (“As Good As It Gets”) and sometimes great (“Broadcast News”).

And may those moaning about it not being Broadcast News be sentenced to repeated viewings of Morning Glory.

And that’s besides the problem of Jack Nicholson ( The Bucket List , The Departed ), as George’s father and coworker, embarrassingly wheezing his way through the movie, like he’s about to keel over with a coronary; or the problem of Brooks’ ( As Good as It Gets ) never giving us the sense that he had any of his meandering story under control.
