What critics compared 2 Guns to
The results come off like a somewhat tamer version of Joe Carnahan’s “Smokin’ Aces” with cool characters and action set pieces that even delves into Coen Brothers territory with a character straight out of “No Country for Old Men” in Bill Paxton’s Earl, an enforcer sent to get back the $43 million using unconventional tactics.
Based on the 2008 BOOM! Studios comics series by writer Steven Grant and illustrator Mateus Santolouco, the hyper-convoluted plot of “2 Guns ” bears more than a passing resemblance to Oliver Stone’s recent “Savages,” with its dense web of American military types and government agents battling each other — and the Mexican drug cartels — over a multimillion dollar jackpot.
However, with the serious charisma of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg fueling the action, settling for the latter with 2 Guns wasn’t such a bad time even if we’ve seen the crooked government agent/drug cartel kingpin movie so many times before, most recently with Savages.
