What critics say influenced
A studious loner, Elphaba couldn’t be less like her popular classmate Galinda, whose cheery exterior and princessy pink outfits can’t help but recall another blonde, Elle Woods, as portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde.
Meanwhile, it's Grande who steals the show with a sparkling performance that seems modeled on two great Reese Witherspoon roles: the despicable Tracy Flick from "Election" and the endearing Elle Woods from "Legally Blonde."
…my desire to hear Alan Cumming cover “Popular” from Wicked in the style of Mr. Ring-a-Ding grew.
Meanwhile, on the big screen, films like Practical Magic starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters using their inherited powers to navigate life and love gave rise to the relatability of witches, turning a historically dark subject into something lighthearted and goofy.
Grande, in particular, is firing on all cylinders, showcasing her natural comedic talents with a Ryan Gosling in Barbie amount of Ken-ergy, and she steals almost every scene she is in with a genuinely funny and dazzling performance that is bound to make her as big of a movie star as she already is in the world of music.
