Adam Mason’s schlocky and opportunistic “Songbird” is billed as the first Hollywood feature to be made during quarantine, and this impressively scaled pandemic-themed riff on “The Purge” couldn’t be prouder of itself for that accomplishment.
I didn't necessarily expect Mason to channel John Carpenter, but the movie doesn't even approach the pissed-off populism of The Purge series.
(I’m sure there’s a nod to John Wick 2 , in which Stormare played a Russian gangster.
The sleazebag's wife (Demi Moore), who has bracelet access, sends Nico to a L.A.'s sanitation director (Peter Stormare, looking like he hasn't bathed since "John Wick: Chapter 2") to be killed, but later helps him out because nothing in "Songbird" even attempts to make sense.
You followed all the rules for film production during the pandemic, and made the first movie to use the awful reality of mass death and mentally crippling isolation as the basis for a series of stoopide contrivances and situations that adhere to no logic whatsoever, and offers the emptiest love story this side of Fifty Shades of Grey !
