Disillusioned with romance, Beth, an ambitious New Yorker, travels to Rome for her sister's wedding, where she plucks magic coins from a special fountain of love. The coins attract unwanted attention from an assortment of odd yet ardent suitors: a sausage merchant, a street magician, an artist, and a male model. But when the best man from the wedding, persistent reporter Nick, throws his hat in the ring, Beth wonders if his love is the real thing.

Alas, Surly is performed by Will Arnett (2010's " When in Rome "), whose hard, edgy vocal quality would work better for a villain.

When in Rome is a romantic comedy marketed as a product of “the studio that brought you The Proposal.”
Too bad, because some of the funniest material comes in "The Proposal"-like culture clashes and fish-out-of-water sequences we see in the Roman segments--which were really shot in Rome.
If she had seen junk like “The Proposal,” Guggenheim museum curator Beth (Kristen Bell) would know that being an uptight workaholic ain’t gonna land her a man in a romantic comedy these days.
