Nick cannot stop obsessing over his ex-girlfriend, Tris, until Tris' friend Norah suddenly shows interest in him at a club. Thus begins an odd night filled with ups and downs as the two keep running into Tris and her new boyfriend while searching for Norah's drunken friend, Caroline, with help from Nick's band mates. As the night winds down, the two have to figure out what they want from each other.

There�s probably a little too much chasing down the drunk friend, despite how funny Graynor is, and you wish there was a little less grumbling and more of the Before Sunrise/Sunset feel that we get in the final half hour which is quite special.
Based on a popular novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan and echoing everything from "American Graffiti" to "Before Sunrise," this is a movie that doesn't know how to say "no."
That the title protagonists are still in high school is beside the point; theirs is a romance, like the ones in 1995's "Before Sunrise" and 1999's " Trick ," that nails exactly what it is like to fall in love, no matter age, gender, race or sexual preference.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is shaped like a kinder, gentler After Hours with a little of the aforementioned Before Sunrise thrown in for good measure.

Scafaria gives both of the leads enough depth that neither one of them feel like a concept or narrative placeholder (and this is a real danger her: Penny has all the makings of a perfunctory Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and Dodge is, well, named Dodge, which tells us far too much about the metaphorical usage he's put to in the course of the movie), and there's an awareness of how human beings exist in relationship to one another that's not even remotely present in her shallow screenplay for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist .
