Supporting performances are as naturalistic as photographer Seamus McGarvey's (2009's " The Soloist ") cinéma vérité lensing, with John C. Reilly (2011's " Cedar Rapids ") approaching Franklin as a father and husband more apt to trust his kids than his wife?a grievous mistake?and young Ashley Gerasimovich (2010's " Fair Game ") casting a light of contrasting innocence on Celia that Kevin has never known.
He seems hardened and full of fury, perhaps a response at the unfair way his The Soloist (2009) was received.
Then the Bad Men come to take her to the Witchy Lady who is responsible for her being a genetically engineered perfect assassin, and she is on the run, alone... Director Joe Wright ( The Soloist ) makes sure his story looks great -- and sounds great, with its aurally spectacular Chemical Brothers score -- but it’s an empty experience, a Frankenstein story with no heft, indeed with little apparent awareness of the classic tale it is evolved from.
That Joe Wright could direct such a well-paced, entertaining adventure is a huge surprise because his background includes such yawners as Atonement (2007) and The Soloist (2009).
Director Joe Wright ("Pride & Prejudice," "The Soloist") takes one step further from his early period films with this stylish, head-tripping assassin thriller by way of Snow White.
Wirtten by Seth Lockhead and David Farr and directed by Joe Wright (“The Soloist,” “Atonement,” “Pride and Prejudice”), this humorless pursuit thriller was filmed on location in Morocco and Germany, specifically the now-defunct Spree Park in eastern Berlin.
If it weren't overseen by prestige-vendor Joe Wright, although his underseen The Soloist proved that he's interested in much more than industry awards and period costumes, I suspect that critics and cult fans would cede it more credit than some of them have.
