West, a rising young director of minor cult pleasures (2005’s “The Roost,’’ 2007’s “Trigger Man’’), comes clean here about his love for all things Bava (Mario) and Carpenter (John).
West's last feature, the highly experimental "Trigger Man," challenged audiences to remain patient for roughly half the running time before the aimless plot gave way to a massive slaughterfest.
West may have lost control over that unnecessary Eli Roth-free sequel, but his masterly fingerprints are unmistakable throughout the rest of his résumé, from 2005's spine-tingling "The Roost" to 2007's chilling minimalist sucker-punch " Trigger Man ."
