Firefighters Chuck Ford and Larry Valentine are guy's guys, loyal to the core—which is why when widower Larry asks Chuck to pose as his lover so that he can get domestic partner benefits for his kids, his buddy agrees. However, things get dicey when a bureaucrat comes calling, and the boys are forced to present a picture of domestic bliss.

What critics compared I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry to
Written by Sandler and Fred Wolf, who cut his teeth at "Saturday Night Live" in the '90s, and directed by frequent Sandler partner in crime Dennis Dugan ("I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" most recently), the film is clearly a case of a comic on a nostalgia binge, pining for a simpler place and time.
The man partly responsible for two shameless social farces “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry’’ and “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan’’ is being lazy even by the standards of “Big Daddy.’’
Dugan�s part in this is not surprising, since his previous credits include the horrific You Don�t Mess With the Zohan and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, both of which starred Sandler, and the latter included James.
Directed by Dennis Dugan (I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry), with a script credited to Sandler and longtime SNL head writer Fred Wolf, Grown Ups lazily makes its way from Point A to Point B, establishing the individual characters on their home turf, then amassing them for a memorial service and the weekend wake in an inspirational rustic setting.
