But thankfully " A Walk Among the Tombstones " strolled in not giving a damn about anyone's expectations and delivered a crime thriller well worth your time in the same vein as "Killing Them Softly" and "Zodiac."
David Fincher got eerily close in Zodiac.
From there the film gets unpleasant in a hurry, with the killers ogling a teenage girl in slow motion to the tune of Donovan’s “Atlantis” – a feeble facsimile of David Fincher’s use of “Hurdy Gurdy Man” in his serial killer epic, “Zodiac.”
As the film shambles along, Frank infers other thematic concerns, from alcoholism and gun control to the nature of vengeance and jealousy, but they all come to be little more than window dressing for a run-of-the-mill detective story in line with '90s thrillers like The Bone Collector.
For another, it would give The Human Centipede a run for its money.
