For his part, director Gavin O’Connor ( Miracle , Jane Got A Gun ) competently, unremarkably keeps the balls in the air.
The Accountant, which is directed by Miracle’s Gavin O’Connor and written by The Judge’s Bill Dubuque, reveals its backstory in slow, looping coils, as if in hopes that will hide how little sense it makes when straightened out.
Written by Bill Dubuque and directed by Gavin O’Connor (the heartfelt “Miracle”), “The Accountant” is a nifty piece of genre entertainment, its wacky edge and genial tone despite that body count coming as something of a pleasant surprise in a year rife with lumbering, over-amped blockbusters.
“The Accountant” was directed with style and vigor by Gavin O’Connor (“Warrior,” “Miracle”), a filmmaker capable of investing old formulas with fresh life.
And though — or perhaps because — director Gavin O’Connor shoots this strange October surprise full of the same scrappy, ball-swinging gravitas that he brought to the more grounded likes of “Miracle” and “Warrior,” it is still some very, very silly business.
But then this is the sort of stupid movie we've come to expect from Gavin O'Connor, who started off strong and indie with the femme-centric "Tumbleweeds" in 1999 and since then has turned out nothing but macho explosions – "Miracle," "Pride and Glory," "Warrior."
