When perpetually single, aging music industry exec Harry Sanborn, and his latest trophy girlfriend, Marin, arrive at her mother's beach house in the Hamptons, they find that her mother, playwright Erica Barry, also plans to stay for the weekend. Erica is scandalized by the relationship and Harry's sexist ways. But when Harry has a heart attack while there, and the doctor prescribes bedrest, his only option is to stay at the Barry home. Left in the care of Erica and his doctor, a love triangle starts to take shape.

Keanu Reeves is surprisingly believable as a doctor (probably one of the most unbelievable acting gigs since Charlie Sheen played a computer genius in “The Arrival”).
But no one had ever made a film about the US President falling in love until Rob Reiner's The American President, but that film was smart enough to fall back on Aaron Sorkin's sharp-as-a-tact script.
If her 1998 directorial debut with The Parent Trap remake could have been better chosen, she's redeemed herself with Something's Gotta Give .
Meyers, herself in her 50s, has written and/or produced many uterine-fueled romantic comedies like Private Benjamin, Baby Boom, I Love Trouble, and two Father Of The Brides, but only directed two (1998s Disney remake of The Parent Trap and the smarmy 2000 Mel Gibson vehicle What Women Want ), and it seems her screenplay is sometimes not as mature as the characters in it.
As written and directed by Nancy Meyers ( "What Women Want," "The Parent Trap" remake), the unlikely love story that forms between Nicholson (who prefers "the complete, uncomplicated satisfaction of the younger woman") and Keaton (who has been adjusting to independence and getting over old-fashioned notions of spinsterhood) is a source of sophisticated laughs -- with the occasional low-brow guffaw thrown in for good measure (say, Nicholson's posterior peeking out of a hospital gown).
