Stephen Glass is a staff writer for the respected current events and policy magazine The New Republic and a freelance feature writer for publications such as Rolling Stone, Harper's and George. By the mid-90s, Glass' articles had turned him into one of the most sought-after young journalists in Washington, but a bizarre chain of events - chronicled in Buzz Bissinger's September 1998 Vanity Fair article - suddenly stopped his career in its tracks.

Playing a burnout gravedigger, Peter Sarsgaard ( Shattered Glass , Boys Dont Cry ) proves once again that he may just be one of the most versatile and understated actors working today.
Mark would probably have been a nothing role without Sarsgaard (so good in Shattered Glass).

And Sarsgaard -- who won the San Francisco Film Critics Circle award for Best Supporting Actor for Shattered Glass (2003) -- does one of his lovely slow reveals, in which he first appears to be a shallow, selfish twerp, but eventually uncovers a big heart and a clear personality.
There are the occasional outliers—Shattered Glass (the story of fabulist former-New Republic associate editor Stephen Glass, starring Hayden Christensen)—but beyond the depths of television and documentaries, like the fifth season of The Wire (where Tom McCarthy, the director of Spotlight, played the resident fabulist journalist), and Laura Poitras’ gripping documentary on Edward Snowden, Citizenfour , pop culture is invested in portraying ink-stained wretches as noble fighters for the truth.
Shattered Glass is still the best movie about journalists I’ve ever seen, but Spotlight is definitely the best movie about journalism.
