What critics compared Next Friday to
Next door is a posse of gun wielding low-riders -- who rip-off uproarious quips from "American Me" and "Scarface" -- their buxom sister and an irate bull terrier.
Where AVP has its lame comic-relief Scotsman (Trainspotting's Ewen Bremner), REA has lame comic-relief homey LJ (Next Friday's Mike Epps, betraying a serious lack of self-respect).
There's not a single laugh to be had in Next Friday, and while that aspect didn't really hurt the first movie, it's especially noticeable here.
Well, the rest of this month's upcoming films have yet to be seen by me, but 2000 has begun with Steve Carr's "Next Friday," the sequel to the despicably low-rent 1995 comedy hit, "Friday."
For a while, Next Friday, the sequel to the 1995 sleeper hit ''Friday,'' dawdles with amiable shagginess as it follows Craig (played, once again, by Ice Cube, who also produced), the chunky, impassive hero, out to the L.A. suburbs, where he goes to live with his Uncle Elroy (Don ''DC'' Curry) and cousin Day-Day (Mike Epps), who have used their lottery winnings to escape South Central.
…t's the rare cash-in sequel that's worth the price of full admission, so it's no surprise that Next Friday (part of the minifranchise that includes 1996's Friday and an upcoming, NYC-set version tentatively titled Stoops) isn't quite the picture its predecessor was.
Next Friday takes place four years after that first "fried day," by which time Craig's nemesis Debo (Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr.) has busted out of jail.
