After writing a soon-to-be bestselling novel, writer and committed bachelor Harper attempts to hide the fact that his saucy new book is loosely based on the lives and loves of his tight-knit group of friends. Harper is set to be best man at his friend Lance's wedding, and all his friends will be in attendance. When an advance copy of the book makes its way into the hands of his ex-flame, Jordan, Harper attempts to keep it under wraps.

Also taking advantage of the chance to test out their comedic skills are Shawn and Marlon Wayans; the delightful Regina Hall (1999's "The Best Man"), as loudmouth Brenda, who gets her much deserved comeuppance in one of the picture's best scenes, when she causes an uproar at the local movie theater showing "Shakespeare in Love;" Shannon Elizabeth (1999's "American Pie"), who is distraught that her boyfriend is killed until she learns she has just won the town's beauty pageant as Miss Fellatio; and Dave Sheridan and the sadly underused Cheri Oteri (TV's "Saturday Night Live"), as Deputy Doofy and Gail Hailstorm, obvious takes on the David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette characters in the "Scream" movies.
Granted, the thought of "The Man" being personified as a, well, man, is amusing, but the writers and director Malcolm D. Lee ("The Best Man") don't get as much mileage from the idea and related material as one would like to see.
The makers, led by helmer Malcolm D. Lee ("The Best Man"), keep it fresh and brisk as they spoof the blaxploitation films of the 70's in a rapid-paced manner (the run time is a scant 83 minutes - just right for this kind of comedy flick).
A comedy with ideas, courage, and intelligence, Malcolm D. Lee's follow-up to his surprisingly good The Best Man is the blaxploitation riff Undercover Brother--and man, when it's right, it's really right.
