What critics compared Stuart Little to

The Sheep Detectives poster
The Sheep Detectives carries a sophistication reminiscent of those '90s live-action family films like Babe, Mouse Hunt, Stuart Little, or even my VHS classic The Borrowers, back before the genre got tainted by lazy TV-to-live-action adaptations like The Smurfs and the dumpster fire of Disney's live-action output.

Paddington poster
In the tradition of Stuart Little and Hugo before it, Paddington is one of those amazing films that perfectly blends heart and humor, with a gigantic quantity of whimsy.

So, yes, there are familiar elements here -- from children's-lit and children's-film classics as varied as 101 Dalmatians, Stuart Little, and Winnie the Pooh, but there's also a broad-and-bizarre stroke of Monty Python-style absurdity and more than a few welcome, modernized-yet-classical touches like a  calypso band, D Lime, acting as a chorus to the film's urban adventuring.
Paddington 2 poster

Freaky Friday poster
Tess's dad (Harold Gould, "Stuart Little") lives with them, providing a father figure to Harry, although he's too out of touch to have much impact on his granddaughter's world.
