A heavily-favored selection at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In announces the most promising talents to emerge from Sweden since Lukas Moodysson debuted Show Me Love almost a decade ago.
His first feature, 1997's Show Me Love, was even described by Bergman as "a young master's first masterpiece."
Swedish director Lukas Moodysson�s first two films were, at their best, much more than interesting: the first was the teen lesbian love story Fucking Åmål (released in the US under the wimpier title Show Me Love), and the second was Together, a study of life at a �70s commune.
Moodysson, whose "Together" and "Show Me Love" established him as an international filmmaker to be reckoned with, doesn't quite top himself here.
Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodyson's first two films, "Show Me Love" and "Together," were wonderfully subtle portraits of people's complicated lives and loves.
Show Me Love , a poignant drama about a teen girl's coming of age, and Together , about life in a '70s commune, introduced Moodysson to the international film-going community, and showed him to be a craftsman of some talent - an accomplished cinematic storyteller whose skill behind a camera belies his relative inexperience.
And as such, it's a drastic departure for writer-director Lukas Moodysson, whose previous films include the enjoyably sweet "Show Me Love" (1998) and "Together" (2000).
In this regard, My Summer of Love calls to mind other recent sapphically inclined coming-of-age films: i.e., Show Me Love, Lost and Delirious, The Dreamlife of Angels, and Heavenly Creatures.
