What critics compared True Crime to
So many similar movies have been made recently about the exact same subject (1995's "Dead Man Walking," 1996's "Last Dance," 1996's "The Chamber") that there could virtually be a new film genre invented.
New characters include those played by the likes of Bernard Hill ("Titanic," "True Crime"), Miranda Otto ("What Lies Beneath," "Human Nature") and David Wenham ("The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course," "The Boys"), but neither they nor those they play add a great deal from a thespian standpoint.
Clint Eastwood has been cranking out thriller after thriller over the last few years (True Crime and Absolute Power), and while he'll never be credited with reinventing the genre, he does know what it takes to create an effectively suspenseful and involving storyline.
As a director, Eastwood has made some lovely films (Unforgiven, Letters from Iwo Jima) and he’s made some turkeys (True Crime, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, etc.).
