As the Dynamic Duo contend with these bad guys, a third hero, Batgirl, joins the ranks of the city's crime-fighters.

What critics compared Batman & Robin to
A less-than-worthy sequel to the 2012 picture, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is more reminiscent of Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997), which, in the franchise’s directorial wasteland between Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan, believed that the series could be extended simply by signing big stars to play new villains: Jim Carrey as the Riddler, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze.
The love story between Peter and Gwen is just about perfect, but when combined with wildly over-the-top supporting characters, the film flows over into outright camp (remember “Batman & Robin”?).
4. There's also a weird layer of unintentional kitsch to the villains here—this is far more Batman & Robin than The Dark Knight.
In some ways, this is the Batman & Robin of the entire Spidey series.
Svetlana Khodchenkova, as Viper, is supposed to be villainous but comes across as only vampy; she recalls Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy in ‘‘Batman & Robin,’’ only less interesting.

Maybe Sony drew inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s reboot of “Batman,” with Nolan wading into waters made murky by Michael Keaton (“Tim Burton’s Batman”), Val Kilmer (“Batman Forever”), and George Clooney (“Batman & Robin”) and paddling off with Christian Bale in his own, darker direction.
While the film veers recklessly from neo-"Triumph of the Will" to Hong Kong action to anything else the traffic will bear -- and that's just in the opening hockey match -- it trots out a lively supporting cast.

This reminded me of Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy and her red mist mind-controlling pheromones in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman & Robin.”
To compare this big-budget effort to such truly abysmal efforts as Catwoman and Batman & Robin would merely be an exercise in misguided grandstanding; at the same time, the middling results suggest that, the excellence of X-Men: First Class notwithstanding, Hollywood might consider cooling it on the super-sagas for a while (fat chance) and seek inspiration from other types of comic characters.
And now comes "The Green Lantern," a mind-numbing, misguided pandemonium that ranks as the biggest comic book misfire since "Batman & Robin" battled Poison Ivy.

Heavily indebted to an adrenalized version of the mix and match, collage-y time structure of “Pulp Fiction”—which the movie feels like it leans on whenever possible—borrowing the smash-and-grab titles sequence ideas and incessant needle drops from “Suicide Squad,” while throwing in a little Joel Schumacher-era “Batman & Robin” absurdity and campy flair in for good measure, “Birds Of Prey” is hyper affected, and a little more than obnoxious in its first half.
The LEGO Batman Movie references just about every previous live-action version of Batman (perhaps leaving out one of the two black-and-white serials), but the film it’s most like in plot is actually the most reviled, Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin .
For diehard Batman fans, the biggest stumbling block of all might be the picture’s place as the silliest Bat film since Joel Schumacher’s reviled “Batman & Robin.”

The film is utterly dissonant, recalling the weird camp of Batman & Robin , which illustrates a fundamental conflict between the presentation of what the Venom symbiote is and does and the filmmakers’ efforts to turn his story into a Deadpool -esque laugh riot.
