Daylight (1996)

A group of armed robbers fleeing the police head for the New Jersey Tunnel and run right into trucks transporting toxic waste. The spectacular explosion that follows results in both ends of the tunnel collapsing and the handful of people who survived the explosion are now in peril. Kit Latura is the only man with the skill and knowledge to lead the band of survivors out of the tunnel before the structure collapses.

What critics compared Daylight to
The Australian drama follows the blueprint of almost every other disaster movie, from "The Towering Inferno" to "The Poseidon Adventure" to Sylvester Stallone's tunnel-set "Daylight."
Director Rob Cohen (Miami Vice, Daylight, The Fast and the Furious) and screenwriter Rich Wilkes (The Jerky Boys, Beer Money, Airheads) know their target audience and just how to target them.
"XXX" isn't high art by any standards, but Cohen has previously helmed some rather effective and warm pictures before ("Dragon : The Bruce Lee Story," "Daylight") that showcased a modicum of talent on his part that if nurtured, could give birth to even better films.
It's too bad that the actor doesn't have a better script - from screenwriter Rich Wilkes ("The Jerky Boys," "Airheads") - or better work from Cohen ("Daylight," "Dragonheart") behind the camera.
Now it all comes back: Cohen isn’t a hot new talent, he’s a 53 year old hack who made such lousy flicks as “Dragonheart”, “Daylight” and “The Skulls”.
