Cold Comfort Farm (1995)

In this adaptation of the satirical British novel, Flora Poste, a plucky London society girl orphaned at age 19, finds a new home with some rough relatives, the Starkadders of Cold Comfort Farm. With a take-charge attitude and some encouragement from her mischievous friend, Mary, Flora changes the Starkadders' lives forever when she settles into their rustic estate, bringing the backward clan up to date and finding inspiration for her novel in the process.

What critics compared Cold Comfort Farm to
The town still despises Tilly, and she them, but she is happy to take their money, and for a while, The Dressmaker feels a bit like Cold Comfort Farm, with the city girl comedically bringing elegant civilization to the middle of nowhere, all the ladies of the town prancing to the post office or the general store in glamorous and wildly impractical gowns.
Eileen Atkins, the redoubtable comic actress of Cold Comfort Farm, aces a few brief appearances but her character is not allowed to continue much.
"White Noise" does seem to have a nice look and feel, courtesy of cinematographer Chris Seager ("Cold Comfort Farm") and production designer Michael S. Bolton, who eventually drain the film's early warm color styling as Keaton's character spirals deeper into his obsessed and confused state.
"Emma," starring Kate Beckinsale ("Cold Comfort Farm") as the meddlesome heroine of Austen's 1816 social comedy, is scheduled for 5 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. Sunday on A&E.
She came to the role well prepared, after playing another socially self-assured comic figure in the recent film ''Cold Comfort Farm.''
But this new "Emma," guided by Kate Beckinsale ("Cold Comfort Farm") as a more willful, more snippy and therefore more believably callow Emma, is truer to the detective spirit of the novel and satisfying in more significant ways.

The central character of "Dark City" is John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell, from "Cold Comfort Farm"), an amnesiac who finds himself the object of a citywide manhunt.
Green-eyed Sewell, the musk hulk presence in Cold Comfort Farm does appear to have been truly discovered by Hollywood, as he is also starring in the long delayed Dangerous Beauty.
