Two childhood paranormal incidents have convinced schoolteacher Faith Corvatch that her true love is a guy named 'Damon Bradley', but she has yet to meet him. Preparing to marry podiatrist Dwayne in ten days, Faith receives a phone call from Dwayne's old classmate Damon Bradley, who is on his way to Venice. She impulsively decides to fly to Italy with the hope of finally encountering the man of her dreams. Accompanying her on the trip is her sister-in-law and best friend Kate, who has just left her husband, Faith's brother Larry.

Norman Jewison tries to revive some of the “ Moonstruck ” magic, via a side trip through “ Sleepless in Seattle ,” in “Only You.”
Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. are persuasively hot for each other, and director Norman Jewison shows his deftest comic touch since Moonstruck in detailing their sparring, but it is Italy — shot with shimmering grace instead of travel-agency gloss by cinematographer Sven Nykvist — that fills Only You with magical romance.
There is a fine line between the Idiot Plot, so called because the characters act in defiance of common sense, and what we might call, in deference to Jewison's 1987 hit, the " Moonstruck " Plot - in which the characters also act in defiance of common sense, but we don't mind because it's fun.
Moonstruck director Norman Jewison successfully mines the same territory with this delicious "Cinderella Italian-style" romantic comedy.
Director Norman Jewison attempts to strike "Moonstruck" gold a second time with "Only You," a "Cinderella" tale that is also a sweet and frequently funny romantic comedy with a charming cast.
It's hard not seeing this comedy d'amore as Jewison's attempt to get Moonstruck again.
