Pete Bell, a college basketball coach is under a lot of pressure. His team isn't winning and he cannot attract new players. The stars of the future are secretly being paid by boosters. This practice is forbidden in the college game, but Pete is desperate and has pressures from all around.

What critics compared Blue Chips to
I enjoyed "Blue Chips" and the television production of "12 Angry Men."
Regarding the director, well, it’s tough to knock the man who gave us “The Exorcist,” “Sorcerer,” and “The French Connection,” but over the last several years his output has been more like “Jade,” “Blue Chips,” and “The Rules of Engagement” — so I can be forgiven for doling out some skepticism on that end, too.
But director William Friedkin, that old master who brought us The French Connection and The Exorcist before a few decades in the wilderness (the man directed Blue Chips, for cripes sake), shows off a dirty old man's glee; the movie is almost affably amoral.
