What critics compared The Lover to
Leung — not to be confused with the actor who starred in Jean-Jacques Annaud’s “The Lover,” Tony Leung Kar-fai — has a grave, refined presence, but there’s a boyishness to his dignity that’s almost overtly sexual.
Annaud, who wrote the adaptation with frequent collaborator Gerard Brach, showed more consideration for the cub in "The Bear" than he does for young Miss March, who is shamefully overexposed.
"The Lover," co-written and directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud ("Quest for Fire," "The Name of the Rose," "The Bear"), is a real snoozer, one of the most boring movies to come along in awhile.
This French production, by the team that gave you "The Name of the Rose" and "The Bear," is beautiful to watch -- and not just because English actress Jane March and equally nubile co-star Tony Leung will never need Slimfast.
