What critics compared High Hopes to
Leigh ("High Hopes," "Life Is Sweet") is justly famous for the performances he inspires.
Leigh has said in an interview that while his earlier films (including " High Hopes " and " Life Is Sweet ") might have embodied a socialist view of the world, this one edges over into anarchy.
By now, after "High Hopes" and "Life Is Sweet," we expect great acting in a Mike Leigh movie.
However, whereas comedies such as Life is Sweet and High Hopes showed Leigh's whimsical side, Naked is anything but charming.
The result, as recent works like "High Hopes" and "Life Is Sweet" testify, are films that cut deeper and go further in terms of character development while providing more opportunities for actors to astonish than anything else on the screen today.
