It's vacation time for outdoorsy Chicago man Chet Ripley, along with his wife, Connie, and their two kids, Buck and Ben. But a serene weekend of fishing at a Wisconsin lakeside cabin gets crashed by Connie's obnoxious brother-in-law, Roman Craig, his wife, Kate, and the couple's two daughters. As the excursion wears on, the Ripleys find themselves at odds with the stuffy Craig family.

What critics compared The Great Outdoors to
Peele uses everything to craft tension and pressure, which he often releases by punctuating the dread of Us with humor—Gabe is a goofy, nerdy dad full of one-liners and dad-jokes in the vein of John Candy in The Great Outdoors.
Despite being a retread of the old John Candy formula ( The Great Outdoors and Summer Rental come to mind), Grown Ups does have its moments, mostly thanks to the cast's undeniable chemistry.
The result owes a lot to such classic comedies as "The Great Outdoors," "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and, especially, "National Lampoon's Vacation," in which Chevy Chase reminds his kids, "Getting there is half the fun."
