However, by the mid-to-late 1980s, New Orleans' necromancy connections were already something of a cliche, Paul Schrader having set his remake of Cat People in the delta city.
Yet it is not often that one reads or hears of anyone recommending it compared to " The Exorcist ", "The Omen", or "The Sixth Sense".
Parker's films are always made with great gusto, as if he were in up to his elbows and taking no hostages; look for example at " Midnight Express ," " Fame " (1980) and " Pink Floyd: The Wall ."
All that's helped by Alan Parker's fly-on-the-wall approach, and his direction is far less heavy-handed than we saw from him in "Angel Heart."
Mr. Parker (''Midnight Express,'' ''Shoot the Moon,'' ''Birdy'') is an eclectic film maker.
