What critics compared Peggy Sue Got Married to
Fittingly for a movie stuffed with ’80s pop-culture references (including Vaughn’s frequent invocations of “ Flashdance ” as an inspirational touchstone), “The Internship” often feels like a time-travel or body-switching comedy a la “Big” and “Peggy Sue Got Married,” but where nothing supernatural is responsible for stranding Los Angeles watch salesmen Billy (Vaughn) and Nick (Wilson) in a world they no longer recognize.
That would be 1986, when another time-travel movie came out, Peggy Sue Got Married.
He plays the town’s new pastor like he’s Nicolas Cage in “Peggy Sue Got Married,” with an accent from outer space and a preening self-regard that works like a defibrillator on the morose movie surrounding him.
When it gets really interesting, 21 Jump Street becomes more like a dude-comedy remake of Francis Ford Coppola’s Peggy Sue Got Married, wondering what you’d do differently, if given a second crack at high school.

Ewan McGregor as the patriarch of the central Platt family even seems to draw on Nicolas Cage’s singular performance in Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)…
Then there is a second level that includes "Superman II," the Tim Burton "Batman" films, the last "X-Men" epic and the first "Iron Man"--all solid films that nevertheless lack that final spark that separates the good from the great.
The film sets us up for a “Peggy Sue Got Married” moment with David and his dead dad — that’s a dud.
He first started doing that back in the ’80s, in prestige Hollywood films like “Peggy Sue Got Married” and “Moonstruck.”
You have to show them “Moonstruck,” “Peggy Sue Got Married,” “The Rock,” or “Gone in 60 Seconds” to really understand.
Even scenes with the older Nic arguing with the young, longhaired, leather-jacked Nic (a great use of “de-aging”) of “Valley Girl,” “Peggy Sue Got Married” or “Rumble Fish” is more promising than hilarious.
