What critics compared For Your Eyes Only to
The helicopter sequence reminded me a lot of the opening of For Your Eyes Only .
Picking up on the heels of Skyfall , which offed Judi Dench’s M and introduced a new generation of MI6 accomplices (Naomie Harris’ Moneypenny, Ben Whishaw’s Q, Ralph Fiennes’ M lite), Spectre opens with Bond in Mexico City during the Day of the Dead on a mission to kill an Italian terrorist, which leads to a dizzying helicopter scrum that makes the one in For Your Eyes Only look like a tickle fight.

From its poster, a gleeful pastiche of Moore-era Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only , to Colin Firth’s on screen preference for outlandish spy movies, it’s clear that Matthew Vaughn’s goal with Kingsman: The Secret Service is to have fun, the kind of fun we used to have in the pre-9/11, pre-post modern world, when it wasn’t necessary to temper fantasy with realism and a heightened reality was presented without apology.
Consent or no, there’s something icky about that, especially when we consider the time Roger Moore did the right thing and kicked a too-young girl out of his bed in For Your Eyes Only .

Films like “For Your Eyes Only” and “Casino Royale” are welcome injections of serious reality into the series after an entry so ridiculous and camp it was essentially pure farce.
Ethan and Grace were handcuffed together like James Bond and Was Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies and they were chased whilst driving a small car which felt like a combination of For Your Eyes Only , The Bourne Identity , and The Italian Job .

Certainly Roger Moore was a comparatively lightweight Bond with his seven appearances in the series: Live and Let Die (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983) and A View to a Kill (1985).
That trend peaked in the 70s and 80s when Roger Moore took over the Bond role and the series became more and more over the top (the best of these being "For Your Eyes Only" and "The Spy Who Loved Me").
Suddenly, the days of a nude Sheena Easton crooning "For Your Eyes Only" or a bunch of robotic femme fatales parading around to the jerky electro-beat of Madonna's "Die Another Day" seem like the distant past.
Bond’s wife was murdered in that 1969 film’s shattering final scene, her name never mentioned again until 1981’s “For Your Eyes Only,” six movies later.
(Plus, it’s not every day you see a Bond film replicate Roger Moore’s finest moment from For Your Eyes Only .
