A masked killer targets six college kids responsible for a prank gone wrong three years earlier and who are currently throwing a large New Year's Eve costume party aboard a moving train.

What critics compared Terror Train to
What Taylor and Landes (and star Octavia Spencer, whom it was reported as having a hand in shaping her character and story) have done, pretty ingeniously, is meld that dusty subgenre with the old school slasher trope of revenge from TERROR TRAIN and SLAUGHTER HIGH and the like, to create something that is both over the top while still being oddly human and sympathetic.
Opening with scenes that set up the unstoppable locomotive as an almost evil entity – so much so that Scott and cinematographer Ben Seresin appear to be remaking Terror Train – but before long the film is kicked into overdrive and, if you’re willing to go along for the ride, you’ll quickly forget all the silly clichés that are shoved into every scene.
Who knows, it works for me just the same as My Bloody Valentine or Terror Train.
