Much in the vein of “Stardust Memories,” and “The Player,” Tarantino allows the audience to bathe in the realm of La La Land and how it both makes and breaks artists.
She is almost a dream figure like the blondes in “American Graffiti” and “Stardust Memories,” especially compared to the shrewish female characters in the film the stunt coordinator married to the Kurt Russell character and the unnamed character married to Booth.

The movie is shot in black and white by Sam Levy, clearly as a homage to its chief influences: the French new wave (Georges Delerue's music for Truffaut's films is quoted on the soundtrack) and monochrome Woody Allen films such as Manhattan , Stardust Memories and Broadway Danny Rose , though it's obviously Annie Hall , progenitor of the freewheeling "relationship movie", that lies behind Frances Ha.
This frenetic searching has been going on for so long that Allen spoofed it in 1980's "Stardust Memories," having aliens from outer space yearn for "the early, funny ones."
He followed it up with the strenuously dour Interiors (quoting Bergman, for God's sake), and later the Fellini pastiche Stardust Memories, but he remained light on his feet.
